Ryan Opera Center (Lyric Opera of Chicago Academy)

The Ryan Opera Center, officially known as the Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center, is the professional artist-development program within the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Founded in 1974 and originally named the Lyric Opera Center for American Artists, it has established itself as one of the premier training programs for aspiring opera talent in the United States. The center offers an array of resources for participants, including vocal coaching, language instruction, acting training, and performance opportunities. Participants in the program are often featured in minor and sometimes major roles in Lyric Opera productions. Alumni of the Ryan Opera Center have gone on to have distinguished international careers. The program is highly competitive, attracting young artists from around the world who aspire to broaden their skills and gain valuable stage experience in one of the most respected opera environments in the country.
