The Pogues

The Pogues, although primarily known as a Celtic punk band rather than an artistic organization of venues or ensembles, were formed in 1982 in London. The band's music combines traditional Irish folk with punk rock energy. They gained international acclaim in the 1980s, with albums like 'Rum, Sodomy & the Lash' and 'If I Should Fall from Grace with God.' Fronted by the charismatic and often controversial Shane MacGowan, The Pogues are perhaps best known for their hit 'Fairytale of New York,' a duet with Kirsty MacColl, which has become a perennial Christmas favorite in the UK and Ireland. While not an 'artistic organization' in the traditional sense, The Pogues made a significant cultural impact with their unique sound and energetic performances.
