San Francisco Ballet

The San Francisco Ballet, founded in 1933, is one of the most esteemed and oldest ballet companies in the United States. It was originally formed as part of the San Francisco Opera Ballet, and eventually became an independent entity. The company is known for its dynamic and diverse repertoire, featuring both classical ballets and modern, innovative works. Under the leadership of artists such as Willam Christensen, who produced the first American full-length "Nutcracker" in 1944, the company has achieved significant milestones. It is also recognized for nurturing new choreographers and promoting American ballet. The San Francisco Ballet regularly performs at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco and has toured internationally, garnering acclaim for its technical precision and artistic expression. Its contribution to the world of dance continues to be significant, with many dancers and choreographers emerging from its ranks to gain international recognition.
