Sacramento, CA, United States

The Sacramento Choral Society & Orchestra (SCSO) is a distinguished cultural institution that has been contributing to the musical landscape of the Greater Sacramento Region since its establishment in 1996. Recognized as a California educational non-profit organization under the 501(c)(3) status, the SCSO stands out not only for its high-caliber performances but also for its unique structure within the United States. It is noteworthy for being the only community chorus among the estimated 12,000 in the country to maintain a collective bargaining agreement with its own professional symphony orchestra. Guided by the baton of Conductor Donald Kendrick, the SCSO is composed of an auditioned, volunteer chorus that collaborates with a professional orchestra to create world-class choral orchestral music. The organization is supported by a dedicated team of 150 singers and 55 professional orchestra players who hail from seven different counties. Over the past 26 years, members of the SCSO have collectively volunteered more than one million hours, showcasing their commitment to enhancing the cultural life of their community. The SCSO's mission is to enrich the lives of people in the Greater Sacramento Region and beyond through the power of choral and orchestral music. The organization's vision and values are reflected in its diverse repertoire and the array of outreach programs it offers. The SCSO also emphasizes equity within its operations, as indicated by its equity statement. In addition to its regular season performances, the SCSO engages in various outreach initiatives and holds auditions for new members, thereby fostering the growth of local talent and ensuring the continual rejuvenation of its ensemble. The organization also maintains a strong presence in the media with a photo and video gallery, and it has been recognized with awards and accolades, further cementing its reputation for excellence. The SCSO is governed by a board of dedicated members and is supported by various fundraising activities, including the Big Day of Giving and partnerships with local businesses. It also offers an E-Store and various member services, including a yearbook and the facility for dues and score payments. The Sacramento Choral Society & Orchestra is a beacon of artistic excellence and community engagement. With its Federal Tax ID: 94-3259903, the SCSO continues to thrive as a non-profit organization, inviting the public to support its mission and attend its performances, thereby ensuring that the joy of music remains an integral part of the cultural fabric of Sacramento and its surrounding areas.
