The Young People's Musical Theatre Company (YPTMTC) is a San Francisco-based organization dedicated to fostering the artistic and personal development of children and teens through musical theatre. Established by Diane Price, YPTMTC has a rich history of nurturing young talent, exemplified by notable alumni such as Lena Hall, who won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Diane Price, a San Francisco native and a born performer, laid the foundation for YPTMTC. She made her stage debut before the age of two and pursued dance and theater arts, eventually earning her bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley. With a professional performance career that spanned over two decades, including appearances at the Opera Ring in San Francisco and the renowned nightclub the Hungry I, Price transitioned into teaching tap dance for the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department in the early 1980s. Recognizing the need for a musical theatre program for youth, Price formulated a plan that led to the creation of the Young People's Musical Theatre Co. The company has since produced hundreds of shows and has been instrumental in the growth of countless teenagers, many of whom acknowledge the significant impact YPTMTC has had on their lives. The establishment of Friends of the Company, a non-profit organization that produces the company's shows, marked a milestone in YPTMTC's history. Diane Price retired in 2005, leaving behind a legacy of artistic excellence and community service. The YPTMTC offers a range of programs, including virtual and in-person classes, workshops, and open auditions, catering to the diverse needs of its participants. Past productions showcase the company's commitment to high-quality performances, while the instructors bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the educational programs. The company also maintains a video gallery, allowing a broader audience to experience its work. The YPTMTC continues to thrive as a community where like-minded individuals can come together to create and appreciate musical theatre. With its focus on youth development and its strong alumni network, the company remains a vital part of San Francisco's cultural landscape.
