In collaboration with Purpose Over Pain, the Negaunee Music Institute at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra presents this special concert celebrating six years of the Notes for Peace program. Launched in 2018, Notes for Peace empowers Chicago families who have lost loved ones to gun violence to compose, record and perform original songs of tribute. Join Civic Orchestra of Chicago Fellows and the families of Purpose Over Pain, together with guest artists from U.K.-based organization The Irene Taylor Trust, conductor Kyle Dickson, Chicago-area vocalists and CSO Artist-in-Residence Hilary Hahn, for an inspiring evening demonstrating the healing power of music.

A Notes for Peace Celebration

Join the Civic Fellows for the culminating event of the first-ever collaboration between the Negaunee Music Institute and the Chicago Refugee Coalition. This concert celebrates the backgrounds, experiences and musical traditions of local migrant and refugee families through music and spoken word.

Berlioz’s feverish portrait of an obsessed lover’s opium dream comes complete with a whirling ballroom scene, cackling witches and a slashing guillotine. Anna Clyne’s Masquerade evokes the 18th-century promenade concerts held in London’s pleasure gardens.

Join students from the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras and Chicago Musical Pathways Initiative in the culminating event of the 2023 Chicago Youth in Music Festival. Civic Orchestra Principal Conductor Ken-David Masur leads the Festival Orchestra in an open rehearsal of selections from William Grant Still’s Symphony No. 1 and Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8. The students are joined side-by-side by musicians from the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.
