In 1998 came what was surely the most significant change in the history of the ROMANFABRIK: the lease on the cellar in Uhlandstraße was expiring. At that time contact arose with Ardi Goldman, a major Frankfurt investor, who was planning to redevelop the site of the former Frankfurt brewery on Hanauer Landstraße and thought it desirable to make room there for a cultural institution. After long reflection and many discussions, the Romanfabrik association, under the management of Michael Hohmann, decided to take the risk and make the move. But the Union project was still under construction, so the planned move-in date of autumn 1998 was delayed by at least a year — the old rooms had been given up while the new ones were not yet finished.
