Europäisches Zentrum der Künste Hellerau

Dresden, Germany

HELLERAU, built in 1911 as a festival theatre and educational institute for music and rhythm after the visions of Heinrich Tessenow, pioneer of modern architecture, and the music pedagogue Émile Jaques-Dalcroze, developed through an eventful history into a laboratory of artistic modernism. HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts is today among the most important international centres for the contemporary arts in Germany and Europe. It operates as an interdisciplinary co-production and guest-performance house, offering the contemporary arts — dance, music, theatre, performance, media art and visual art — spaces for production and presentation, and it initiates and fosters debate on art and society through thematic focuses, festivals and audience formats.
