### About the Colorado Symphony The Colorado Symphony, based in Denver, Colorado, is a preeminent orchestra that performs over 150 concerts annually during its regular season. These performances take place at the Boettcher Concert Hall and various locations throughout the state and region. The organization is known for its diverse programming, which includes a mix of classical, Pops, Classic Rock, Holiday, Family, and Inside the Score series, catering to a wide range of musical tastes and audiences of all ages. Founded in 1993, the Colorado Symphony has been committed to delivering exceptional musical experiences. The 2013/14 season was marked by notable appearances from world-renowned artists such as violinists Itzhak Perlman and Joshua Bell, as well as classical pianists Natasha Paremski and Stephen Hough. The orchestra's Pops and Classic Rock series have featured rock legends, iconic film scores, and Broadway hits, while its Holiday, Family, and Inside the Score series have provided captivating collaborations and interactive concerts. Aside from its regular season, the Colorado Symphony is actively involved in the community, offering educational programs for schools, teachers, families, and kids. It also hosts special events, such as the Colorado Symphony Ball, which is the orchestra's largest annual fundraiser. The 2014 Ball was particularly successful, raising nearly $1.2 million to support the musicians of the Colorado Symphony. The Colorado Symphony has also shown a dedication to promoting diversity within the concert hall. Following the death of George Floyd and the subsequent national conversations about race, the Symphony featured a Virtual Music Hour that included a candid conversation about the experiences of Black musicians and composers in society. This conversation was led by Principal Violist Basil Vendryes and Music Director Brett Mitchell, highlighting the significance of works by Duke Ellington and Aaron Copland, and discussing the importance of diversity in orchestral programming. The Symphony's commitment to diversity extends beyond discussions, as it has been intentional in programming music from a diverse range of composers. Principal Violist Basil Vendryes, a member since 1993, has noted the gradual diversification of the repertoire and emphasized the need for more education and skill-building for people of color in the field. As the Colorado Symphony continues to navigate the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, it remains dedicated to making the future of live symphonic music inclusive and representative of all people, musicians, and composers. The organization stands firm in its belief that music has the power to unite and that understanding is the first step towards achieving harmony within society.
