Italy's vegetable garden was already a paradise for the nobility, who created art, culture and pleasure here in breathtaking density. Alongside flourishing duchies such as the Este court of Ferrara, whose history is told to us by the Castello and the Palazzo dei Diamanti, the "red" city of Bologna, with the longest arcades in Europe (38 km), founded the oldest university. Family towers stand in dialogue with the fourfold church of Santo Stefano. To conclude our visual stroll, we stop at an old osteria, order tortellini in brodo and listen to Verdi.
