He was a graduate of the High School of Music and Art in New York City, and of Wagner College in Staten Island, New York, where he received his B.A. in music.  In 1954 he changed his instrument from Violin to Bass Violin.

A protégé of the legendary jazz master Dizzy Gillespie, Sandoval was born in Artemisa, a small town in the outskirts of Havana, Cuba, on November 6, 1949, just two years after Gillespie became the first musician to bring Latin influences into American Jazz. Sandoval began studying classical trumpet at the age of twelve, but it didn’t take him long to catch the excitement of the jazz world. He has since evolved into one of the world’s most acknowledged guardians of jazz trumpet and flugelhorn, as well as a renowned classical artist, pianist and composer.

Keyon Harrold was born and raised in Ferguson, MO, the St. Louis suburb that tore into America’s national consciousness in 2014 with the police shooting of Michael Brown and the bitter protests and riots that followed. Sweeping and cinematic, the music draws on elements of jazz, classicval, rock, blues, and hip hop to create something uniquely modern, unmistakably American. Ruthie Foster's musical journey is as eclectic and vibrant as her soulful voice. Born into a family steeped in gospel tradition, Ruthie's earliest influences were the voices of her mother, grandmother, and the gospel singers she grew up listening to — artists like the Gospel Keynotes and the Blind Boys of Alabama. However, her path to becoming a solo artist wasn't a straightforward one. Despite a deep love for music, Ruthie initially shied away from the spotlight, preferring to play guitar, piano, and write songs for others.

Christian Gates (Born July 26, 1993), known professionally as The Philharmonik, is an American vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, lyricist, music producer and genre defining artist.
The Philharmonik’s musical beginning started in Cleveland, Ohio where he was born. He began taking classical piano at the age of 6 after he attended a concert with his mom. When he returned home from the concert, he began to play songs he heard note for note on the piano. He began lessons the next month with his first piano teacher who played for the Cleveland Orchestra. In his 2016 rap project, "Good People," The Philharmonik's beats, and content echoed an OutKast album with a Sacramento hometown perspective. The Philharmonik debuted his self-produced album “The Philharmonik” in 2018, under Soul Collective (Sacramento, CA) music label. The album includes feature songs “Neon Lights”, “Mama’s House”, “Pay me” and “Good Day” which offer a variety of styles, appealing to a wide audience base. In 2019, The Philharmonik toured the United States and Canada, supporting the single release that year “Drugs”. In the Summer of 2022, The Philharmonik debuted his third album “Kironic” which holds a rich variety of musical styles and meaningful lyrics, reflecting his search for happiness and meaning.

Cimafunk is a two-time Grammy-nominated, Afro-Cuban Rockstar tearing up stages across the globe with his 9-piece band from Havana, the Tribe. His name refers to his heritage as a “cimarrón,” Cubans of African descent who resisted and escaped slavery, as well as to the essence of his music, which aims to subvert classical Cuban rhythms with innovative mixes of funk and AfroCuban. Considered one of today’s great showmen, Cimafunk became the first Cuban-born artist to play Coachella. The non-stop, action-packed live show has won the praise of the likes of Paul McCartney and George Clinton, who refers to Cimafunk as “the next one.” Cimafunk and the Tribe’s live show is a celebration of groove and an unforgettable sonic and bodily experience, forcing out-of-body experiences for crowds at Austin City Limits, Bonnaroo, BottleRock, Glastonbury, New Orleans Jazz, Newport Jazz, Montreal Jazz, Paleo, Roskilde, Summer Sonic and hundreds of other festivals around the world. Cimafunk is redefining contemporary Cuban music as well as Afro-Latin identity and the fusion of black cultures. His last album, El Alimento (the nutrient), was nominated at the 2023 GRAMMY Awards for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album. His August 2024 album, Pa’ tu Cuerpa (for your body), includes collaborations with George Clinton, Trombone Shorty, Big Freedia, Monsieur Perine, and Michael Brun.

The golden era of this saxophonist’s extraordinary musical journey was marked by the formation of his quartet with Danilo Pérez, John Patitucci, and Brian Blade, who went forth to confound all preconceptions of jazz in a prolific 24-years of concerts and Grammy Award winning recordings. Shorter’s great musical legacy lives on through this kindred trio, as they take to Zero Gravity – a shared fearlessness espoused by their mentor and Zen guru.

Ever since the 2003 release of her debut, Another Mind, Hiromi has electrified audiences with a creative energy that encompasses and eclipses the boundaries of jazz, classical and pop, taking improvisation and composition to new heights of complexity and sophistication. On her new album, Silver Lining Suite, Hiromi further exemplifies her virtuosic hybridity and emotional range, finding strength and hope amidst the turmoil of the pandemic. Born in Hamamatsu, Japan in 1979, Hiromi’s first piano teacher, Noriko Hikida, exposed Hiromi to jazz and introduced her to the great pianists Erroll Garner and Oscar Peterson. She enrolled in the Yamaha School of Music and started writing music. Hiromi moved to the United States in 1999 and studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Among her mentors was jazz bassist/arranger Richard Evans, who took Hiromi’s demo to his friend, the legendary pianist Ahmad Jamal. Evans co-produced Another Mind with Jamal. Another Mind was a critical success in North America and Japan, where the album shipped gold and received the Recording Industry Association of Japan’s Jazz Album of the Year Award. Hiromi’s astonishing debut was but a forecast of the shape of jazz to come. In 2009, she recorded with pianist Chick Corea on Duet, a live recording of their concert in Tokyo. She also appeared on bassist Stanley Clarke’s Grammy-winning release, Jazz in the Garden. In the summer of 2021, Hiromi performed at the opening ceremonies of the Tokyo Olympics.

Brasstracks is the GRAMMY award winning project of musician and producer Ivan Jackson. Over the years, Brasstracks has evolved into an ever-morphing landscape where Jackson sets the framework. The Brasstracks rap sheet runs for miles. The group scored two GRAMMY wins for their production work on Chance The Rapper’s seminal “No Problems” in 2017 (Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Album). They’ve also since been nominated for their work with Harry Styles during the 2021 GRAMMYs for Best Pop Vocal Album, ultimately taking home the Best Pop Solo Performance award for their work on “Watermelon Sugar.” Brasstracks has appeared on Saturday Night Live, performing alongside Miley Cyrus, Harry Styles and Mark Ronson. Other collaborations include Anderson .Paak, Khalid, Mac Miller, and BTS. Brasstracks has also performed songs from their debut album on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The new Brasstracks era sees Jackson as an architect for this larger project of incubating artists and allowing them the space to grow.

Born in 1984 in Portland, Oregon, esperanza spalding (a.k.a. irma nejando) is an eaabibacliitoti* artist, trained and initiated in the North American (masculine) jazz lineage and tradition. Her work interweaves through various combinations of instrumental music, improvisation, singing, composition, poetry, dance, therapeutic research, storytelling, teaching, regenerative agriculture, urban land & artist-sanctuary custodianship, and growing in love as a daughter, sister, cousin, niece, auntie, great-auntie, friend, while collaboratively decolonizing within and through her hometown community. She co-founded and serves as lead curator for Prismid Inc., a non-profit that creates and stewards artist residency, performance, and workshop space in Portland, Oregon.
