In the years since posting their first tracks to YouTube, Milky Chance have racked up billions of streams, headlined massive sold-out concerts around the world, performed on nearly every late night show, and played iconic festivals from Coachella and Lollapalooza to Bonnaroo and ACL. British saxophonist Jess Gillam is one of music’s young firewrackers. At 15, she gave a TEDx talk on her instrument, receiving over 100,000 views on YouTube. Her pioneering approach to concerts includes a desire to see more dancing, cheering and clapping between movements, saying, “an instinctive reaction from the audience only prove[s] the joy of music”.

The album cover you’re looking at might lead you to conclude Charley Crockett is on one hell of a roll. You wouldn’t be wrong. Ten records in six years is some kind of prolific. The latest, a double LP, suggests the artist has some songs worth paying attention to. For better or worse, Andy Frasco has been married to the music industry since before he could grow facial hair. At just sixteen, Frasco worked for labels like Drive-Thru Records and Capitol, booking nationwide tours for his pop-punk heroes and wheeling and dealing on calls he’d take on the sly during lunch. He’s been on road since he was 19, played over 250 shows per year for more than decade, lived on bad bar food, and slept in vans, and now, after more than a decade on the musical grind, he’s finally finding himself. He’s not a frat boy (he barely went to college) and he’s not Mr. Cocaine anymore (his old nickname in Germany), he’s a musician — and he’s ready to share that with the world. “People stopped thinking of me as just this party boy, one-trick pony who crowd-surfs and throws organized chaos on stage,” he says. “They started listening to my words.”

America/Beautiful is a project by pianist and arts advocate Min Kwon, in which she has commissioned a diverse group of more than 70 of today’s leading American composers to each compose a variation on “America the Beautiful.”

Kwon's hope is to paint a sonic picture of her adopted country in all of its sprawling complexity, and ultimately try to find the beauty at the core of the American experiment and its credo of e pluribus unum (out of many, one).

This iconic musical wraps up the summer mainstage season. Come see Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer Prize winning rock musical retelling of the “La Bohème” story…relocated to AIDS-era East Village, New York. A penniless songwriter’s love for a young woman grows even as illness begins to consume her. The poet Rodolfo is now punk rocker Roger. Tubercular Mimi is now an AIDS-infected dancer at an S&M nightclub. Painter Marcello is now aspiring filmmaker Mark Cohen, and so forth. The ending is transformed from the opera, but the theme of love striving to endure beyond all obstacles remains. Songs include “Seasons of Love,” “Without You,” “Out Tonight,” “One Song Glory,” “I’ll Cover You” and “Santa Fe.”

Community Concert: A Mariachi Celebration!

For decades, conductor James Conlon has championed composers whose names and works had very nearly been eliminated during the Holocaust. Czech composer Erwin Schulhoff had a prolific 30-year career, composing eight symphonies, chamber music, jazz piano pieces, at least one oratorio, and an opera. He was effectively silenced by the Nazi regime and eventually died in a concentration camp. Zemlinsky and Schoenberg were luckier, managing to emigrate to the United States where Schoenberg was celebrated in the Los Angeles of the 1930s and 40s, while Zemlinsky floundered and eventually stopped composing. The dominance of Schoenberg’s atonal style up until the 1970s may well be due in part to the elimination of composers whose work had a connection to Romantic musical traditions. This program unveils a few examples of once-forbidden and forgotten works by composers who could have changed the course of music history.

Neil Frances is a Los Angeles-based alternative pop music duo making music with soul that you can dance to and believe in.

Sydney-born Jordan Feller and Southern California native MarcGilfry met in 2012 and formed the group in 2016, having both relocated to LA from London and New York, respectively, in pursuit of new projects. With Gilfry’s inherent knack for hooks and melodies and Feller’s encyclopedic sonic recall ability and vast knowledge of production, the pair hit it off and began to develop their brand of beat-driven pop ear worms infused with a more organic warmth than most modern electronic dance music. Putting special emphasis on their enthralling live sets—always performed with a multi-piece band and never relying on playback—the group quickly developed a reputation as a must-see stage artist.

Tony Siqi Yun regularly performs solo recitals in both Europe and North America. Recent and future highlights include his debuts at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Düsseldorf, Luxembourg and in North America the Vancouver Recital Society and Gilmore Rising Stars Series. At the Kissinger KlavierOlymp in 2022 he was awarded two prizes. Tony has a long-standing relationship with the China Philharmonic Orchestra with whom he has toured and also appeared as soloist in the 2019 CCT New Year’s Concert. He has also performed with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. He is a recipient of the Jerome L. Greene Fellowship at the Juilliard School where he studies with Professors Yoheved Kaplinsky and Matti Raekallio.

In 1994 in his hometown of Portland, Oregon, Thomas Lauderdale was working on political campaigns, with the intention of eventually running for office. Drawing inspiration from music from all over the world – crossing genres of classical, jazz, and old-fashioned pop – and hoping to appeal to conservatives and liberals alike, he founded the “little orchestra” Pink Martini “to bring a little bit of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” to political fundraising for causes such as civil rights, affordable housing, cleaning up the Willamette River, libraries and education, among others.

Based on Ann Patchett’s award-winning novel, Jimmy López Bellido’s opera Bel Canto depicts how something truly beautiful can spring from chaos and terror. With a principal role loosely inspired by noted soprano Renée Fleming who championed the work, the opera tells the story of what happens when a gathering of international dignitaries at Peru’s vice-presidential mansion turns into a hostage situation. Music becomes the universal language of this riveting story of humanity and redemption, inspired by real-life events. The Chicago Sun-Times has called Bellido "one of the most interesting young composers anywhere today."

Portland, OR-based singer, songwriter, and producer John Craigie adapts moments of solitude into stories perfectly suited for old Americana fiction anthologies. Instead of leaving them on dog-eared pages, he projects them widescreen in flashes of simmering soul and folk eloquence. On his 2022 full-length album, Mermaid Salt, we witness revenge unfurled in flames, watch a landlocked mermaid’s escape, and fall asleep under a meteor shower.

Since its inception in 1992, the Brentano String Quartet has appeared throughout the world to popular and critical acclaim. Cellist Wilhemina Smith joins the quartet in this recital featuring an AMFS co-commissioned work by composer Steven Mackey.

Born Jock Nowell-Usticke, BAYNK has seen a meteoric rise since his debut just 5 years ago, amassing over 400 million collective streams across his three independently-released EPs and debut album. An instinctive creative, writer, producer, performer, director and above all a thoughtful curator, BAYNK has not only collaborated with Sinead Harnett, Tinashe, Cosmo’s Midnight, Shallou, and Golden Vessel, but also shone with his own vocal performances on his anthemic singles ‘Settle’ and ‘go with u’. In addition to selling out headline performances across the US, Australia, New Zealand, and UK, BAYNK has wowed audiences at festivals such as Coachella and Lollapalooza. His music has been used in placements with Nike, BMW, and Apple.

Suffice to say that the singer, songwriter and proud son of Tyler, Texas — steward of a rich, resonant, bass-leaning tenor dubbed Big Velvet — covers a lot of ground and embodies a lot of characters. He’ll tell you right off the bat that he’s “Country As Fuck,” throwing down a wad of “Fuck You Money” and heading into the night to “Cut a Rug.” His “Country Clubbin'” has as much to do with swinging as his swing. But a song or two later dude’s vowing to be loving his wife “Till the Day I Die” and, in COUNTRY COMING DOWN’s title track, dreams of living in “a cabin in the country, far away from the city lights” where “life is slow and easy.”

Channel Tres blends the drive of Detroit techno and the silky-smooth grooves of Chicago house with the snarl of West Coast rap. His music is no longer a secret between dance DJs (even if they maybe wished it had stayed that way). Even as artists like Drake and Beyonce are venturing into dance music, Channel Tres has been touted as the impetus for house music’s resurgence in pop music by outlets including BET, Billboard, V, Highsnobiety, The Ringer, and more. He’s toured globally, from major festivals to sold-out arenas, and found fans in everyone from Elton John to Tyler, the Creator. For Channel, music is about reconnecting with his own history. He’s recently collaborated with industry mainstays and buzzy up-and-comers including Robyn, Honey Dijon, Tove Lo, Mura Masa, and Shygirl. His 2020 EP i can’t go outside debuted in Spotify’s Top 10 US Album Debuts with features from Tyler, the Creator and Tinashe. The project paved the way for groundbreaking growth. In 2022, Channel Tres made his Coachella debut before embarking on a nearly sold-out debut run of US headline tour dates, including three sold-out hometown shows at The Fonda in Los Angeles.

Following his performance with the Aspen Festival Orchestra, Inon Barnatan presents a solo recital playing one of Schubert's final major compositions for solo piano and his own transcription of Rachmaninoff's lively Symphonic Dances.

Many veteran bands trade on nostalgia, on replication of past glories, and on recycled emotions from younger, more carefree days.

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band trades on a mix of reimagined classics and compelling newer works. The group formed in 1966 as a Long Beach, California jug band, scored its first charting single in 1967, and embarked on a self-propelled ride through folk, country, rock ‘n’ roll, pop, bluegrass, and the amalgam now known as “Americana.” The first major hit came in 1971 with the epic “Mr. Bojangles,” which, along with insistent support from banjo master Earl Scruggs, opened doors in Nashville. Behind those doors were Earl Scruggs, Roy Acuff, Doc Watson, Mother Maybelle Carter, Jimmy Martin, and others who would collaborate on a multi-artist, multi-generational, three-disc 1972 masterpiece: Will the Circle Be Unbroken went triple Platinum, spawned two later volumes, and wound up in the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Sunday's this summer season locals and tourists alike get down to some of Colorado's best bluegrass bands on the top of Aspen Mountain. With the Elk Mountain Range as a backdrop, great drinks and great food from the Sundeck and lots of activities for the kids, the free open-air concerts are a perfect way to relax, unwind and spend an afternoon with friends and family.

The Aspen Music Festival and School and Theatre Aspen once again collaborate to co-present Terrence McNally’s Master Class. This 1995 Broadway play about a master class led by opera singer Maria Callas was a star-making turn for Audra McDonald who earned one of her record-breaking six Tony Awards for her performance. In this production, a theater star (to be announced) will anchor a production featuring the AMFS’s rising-star opera fellows in the dramatic and musical roles of the students. Regarded as “rich, vivid,” and “satisfying” by The New York Times, and a “total triumph” by the Star-Ledger, this classic production comes to life in Aspen’s historic Wheeler Opera House.

Sit back, relax, and take in summer in Aspen from Ajax Tavern's picturesque patio with mountain views and live music every Friday from 4 - 7 pm. Showcasing an acoustic set of music that ranges from the top 40s, blues, alternative, and more, there will be a song for everyone. Before changing the Electronic Music game in South Africa as GoldFish, Dominic Peters and David Poole were mild-mannered students by day – that blew the roof off house parties by night. In a moment of clarity while on tour, Chris Lake felt an undeniable urge to refocus his sound and career. “I ended up back in England where I lived for many years with my family, in my mother’s spare room,” he says. “It was like going back to the old me to find the new me.” He then unleashed a stream of funky, ebullient, and majestic club smashes, including “Chest”, “Stranger”, “Piano Hand” with Chris Lorenzo, “Stomper” with Anna Lunoe, plus celebrated remixes of SNBRN’s “California”, JessGynne’s UK chart-topper ”Hold My Hand”, and of course Calvin Harris & Disciples’ “How Deep Is Your Love”.

Among Lake’s credits are several Billboard chart-toppers, a gold record, a Grammy nomination, and a Midas touch for supporting emerging talent. Chris Lake fully realized his vision in 2017 when he launched his new record label “Black Book Records”. The debut release “Operator ft. Dances With White Girls”, was the Holy Ship! 9.0 anthem by the end of January and gained support from almost every house DJ - from Claude Vonstroke and Green Velvet to Disclosure and Duke Dumont. March saw his OWSLA release “I Want You” with a gory mind-bending video that’s gained over 3M views and a compilation Chris co-curated with Skrillex called HOWSLA. The compilation went to #1 in the iTunes Dance Chart and was celebrated at a live-streamed release party.
