Madison Opera

Madison, WI, United States

Madison Opera, established in 1961 and based in Madison, Wisconsin, is a professional opera company that enriches the community through the production of high-quality operas and educational programs. As a resident organization of the Overture Center for the Arts, it stages three main operas annually, alongside the popular Opera in the Park event, drawing over 10,000 attendees each year. Celebrating its 63rd year in the 2023/24 season, Madison Opera stands as one of only two companies in Wisconsin offering the experience of fully-staged grand operas. Its repertoire spans classic operas like Carmen to modern works such as Fellow Travelers, with Opera in the Park serving as a free concert that attracts over 15,000 people from across the state. The Madison Opera Foundation, established in 2001, supports its financial structure through various funds, including the Madison Opera Endowment. The Margaret C. Winston Madison Opera Center, located near the Overture Center, serves as the company's artistic and administrative home, hosting auditions, rehearsals, and community events. The Madison Opera Studio Artist Program, initiated in 2012, plays a crucial role in the company's artistic and educational mission by supporting emerging artists.
