Michael-Thomas Foumai pays homage to the Japanese Anime genre in his 2015 tone-poem Fullmetal. And Verdi’s “fate motif” in the Overture to La forza del destino is one not to be missed.

Our final program on the Northshore brings the series full circle with another ballet-derived suite in eight movements. The musical phrases of Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring effectively paint a story of American pioneers in the nineteenth century. It is a masterpiece that helped define an identifiable and endearing American voice in music.

The four musicians in Classical Mystery Tour look and sound just like The Beatles, but Classical Mystery Tour is more than just a rock concert. The full show presents some two dozen Beatles tunes sung, played, and performed exactly as they were written. Hear Penny Lane with a live trumpet section; experience the beauty of Yesterday with an acoustic guitar and string quartet; enjoy the rock and classical blend on the hard edged I Am the Walrus. Guest Conductor Kalena Bovell and the LPO perform staples of symphonic repertoire- Jennifer Higdon’s blue cathedral and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4. Commissioned by the Curtis Institute of Music to commemorate the conservatory’s 75th anniversary, blue cathedral is one of Higdon’s most performed works and is dedicated to the memory of her brother. Despite critical reviews during its premiere, Tchaikovsky’s fourth symphony has ranked as one of his best and most frequently displayed pieces.

Big Chief Juan Pardo joins the LPO for a world premiere by Maxim Samarov which celebrates the unique, distinct, and remarkable culture of Mardi Gras Indians found in New Orleans. The performance will also include a new composition by Arlene Sierra and Wynton Marsalis' Blues Symphony.
