Takács Quartet

The Takács Quartet is a renowned string quartet originally formed in Budapest, Hungary, in 1975. The original members were Gábor Takács-Nagy, Károly Schranz, Gábor Ormai, and András Fejér, all students at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. The quartet quickly garnered international acclaim, winning numerous prestigious awards early in their career, including the first prize at the International String Quartet Competition in Evian, France, in 1977. Known for their unique blend of drama, warmth, and humor combined with meticulous attention to detail, the Takács Quartet has performed worldwide and produced a highly-regarded discography, including recordings of the complete Beethoven and Bartók quartet cycles. They are in residence at the University of Colorado Boulder, contributing significantly to the academic and cultural scene by mentoring young musicians. Their interpretations of both classical and contemporary repertoire continue to receive critical acclaim globally.
