Goodspeed Musicals

East Haddam, CT, United States

Goodspeed Musicals, founded in 1963, is a renowned non-profit organization dedicated to producing and preserving American musical theatre. Located in East Haddam, Connecticut, Goodspeed operates in the historic Goodspeed Opera House and the Norma Terris Theatre in Chester. Under the leadership of Michael Price from 1968 to 2014, Goodspeed evolved from a struggling entity into a prominent arts institution, known for reviving rarely produced musicals and nurturing new works. The organization has produced over 250 musicals, including more than 70 world premieres, and has sent 21 productions to Broadway. Goodspeed is the first regional theatre in America to receive two special Tony Awards, recognizing its contributions to the American musical and distinguished achievement in regional theatre. Annually, Goodspeed attracts 130,000 patrons and offers over 400 performances. The organization also supports education through its Max Showalter Center for Education in Musical Theatre and the Scherer Library of Musical Theatre, the second most extensive musical theatre research library in the United States.
