London is and remains the metropolis of Europe's top orchestras: independent of the opera orchestras, five major symphony orchestras compete there with one another. This season we welcome the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, founded immediately after the war by the legendary Sir Thomas Beecham – the only orchestra ever knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. Together with Pro Arte, the world-class orchestra under its chief conductor Vasily Petrenko performs alongside Jan Lisiecki, one of the most outstanding pianists of his generation.
