Amidst the cherry blossoms of Nagasaki, a young woman makes a stand to support herself as a geisha after her disgraced father takes his life. Fate intervenes and brings her an American Naval Officer and she falls desperately in love. Unaware she is just a distraction to him, she believes they are married and renounces her religion as he sails away promising to return. And he does return, ready to take their child and raise him with his American wife.  With her broken heart, she must choose to live with dishonor or die with honor.

A special one-night-only passionate opera concert with tenor Joshua Guerrero and soprano Andrea Carroll. Joshua made his Company debut during One Amazing Night in 2019, and returned as Rodolfo in 2020’s drive-in performance of La bohème. Of his concert with the Company The San Diego Union-Tribune lauded “Guerrero, an impressive tenor [with] a rich, robust voice with a smooth passagio and easy access to his top notes.” Soprano Andrea Carroll made her debut as Musetta in 2020’s drive-in La bohème. Of her appearance San Diego Story said she “soared with a crystalline purity in the upper range that is not typically encountered.” Joshua and Andrea also joined together for a filmed version of Daniel Catan’s La hija de Rappaccini (Rappaccini’s Daughter) that the San Diego Opera is preparing to premiere. Expect a sneak peek of this opera, as well as opera favorites, passionate duets, plenty of surprises with all of the warmth and humor these singers exude from the stage.
