== GableStage == GableStage is a prominent theater company located within the historic Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Florida. It has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1979, when it was originally known as the Florida Shakespeare Theatre. The company initially performed Shakespearean plays in repertory at the outdoor Casino Gardens at Vizcaya. After a period of transition due to the destruction of the Minorca Playhouse by Hurricane Andrew in 1992, GableStage found a new home at the Biltmore Hotel in 1998, where it has since established itself as a cultural landmark. The theater has garnered significant acclaim, winning 64 Carbonell Awards and receiving over 200 nominations. It has also been honored with the Ruth Forman Award, recognizing its substantial contributions to the South Florida theater scene. GableStage is committed to producing a diverse range of quality theatrical productions that resonate with the multicultural audience of South Florida. The company has staged over 100 successful productions, with a focus on presenting vital and cutting-edge works by contemporary playwrights from around the world. Each year, GableStage mounts six plays at the Biltmore Hotel and extends its reach by transporting productions to various performing arts venues across the region, including the Lyric Theatre, the Joseph Caleb Auditorium, and The Seminole Theatre. In addition to its theatrical offerings, GableStage has a strong commitment to community outreach and education. The company collaborates with the Miami-Dade Public Schools' Cultural Passport Program to provide cultural access to students and teachers. This includes school tours, attendance at offsite productions, and the provision of study guides to enrich the educational experience. Post-performance talkbacks further engage the audience in discussion and reflection. Looking to the future, GableStage has been approved as the theatre-in-residence at the Coconut Grove Playhouse, in partnership with Miami-Dade County and Florida International University. The company is currently in the design stages of this project, working alongside various consulting and architectural firms. As an integral member of the South Florida theater and business community, GableStage is affiliated with several organizations, including the Theatre Communications Group, Theatre League of South Florida, Americans for the Arts, Coconut Grove Chamber of Commerce, Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, and the Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber Commerce. The mission of GableStage is to provide South Florida audiences with theatrical works of artistic excellence that confront today's issues and ideas.
