Buena Vista Social Club

The Buena Vista Social Club is a renowned music ensemble that originated in Havana, Cuba. It was formed in the mid-1990s as part of a project led by American guitarist Ry Cooder with the goal of reviving the classic sounds of Cuban music from the pre-revolutionary era. The group, comprised of veteran Cuban musicians, gained international fame following the release of their self-titled album in 1997. The album was an unexpected success, winning a Grammy Award for Best Tropical Latin Album and paving the way for further recognition of Cuban music worldwide. The project's influence was further amplified by the release of a documentary film directed by Wim Wenders in 1999, which highlighted the lives and talents of its band members. The Buena Vista Social Club remains an iconic name in the world music scene, celebrated for its role in bringing traditional Cuban music to a global audience.
