Irish Repertory Theatre, founded by Charlotte Moore and Ciarán O’Reilly in 1988, is a prominent Off-Broadway theater in New York City dedicated to presenting Irish and Irish-American works. The theater opened with Sean O’Casey’s "The Plough and the Stars" and found a permanent home in 1995 at 132 W 22nd Street, featuring the Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage and the W. Scott McLucas Studio Theatre. Renowned for its evocative productions, the theater underwent a significant renovation in 2016. Over its 31 seasons, Irish Rep has staged over 190 productions, engaging more than 500 company members and attracting over 50,000 audience members annually. It is the only year-round theater in NYC focused exclusively on Irish and Irish-American plays. The company has received numerous accolades, including the 2019 Irish Presidential Distinguished Service Award and the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Body of Work. In 2019, The Wall Street Journal named it Company of the Year.
