Class Act Theater is a renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to creating exceptional theatre experiences that have the power to transform lives. With a mission to educate, empower, inspire, and entertain, Class Act Theater has been a pillar of the arts community in The Woodlands for over 27 years. The organization's commitment to arts education is evident through its wide array of programs aimed at students and families, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to learn and grow through theatre and the arts. Founded in 1996 by director and co-founder Keith Brumfield, along with teaching associate Kathi Goodfellow, Class Act Theater emerged from a recognized need for a community theatre in The Woodlands. The founders invested their own funds to kickstart the organization, and the first performance, "Bye, Bye, Birdie," was staged in the winter of 1997. Brumfield, who has been a local choral director, attributes the success of Class Act to the supportive community, talented students, and dedicated individuals involved. Class Act Theater's season typically includes six main stage productions annually. Since its inception, the company has put on over ninety full-scale musical productions, drawing the attention of local theatre enthusiasts and earning high praise. Notably, David Dow Bentley, also known as The People's Critic, commended the company for its outstanding youth theatre productions, particularly highlighting a production of "West Side Story" as a "dazzling theatrical wonder." To expand its reach beyond the theatre, Class Act Theater established "Class Act Stars on Tour," a public relations ensemble created to meet the demand for quality entertainment at community and private events. This initiative offers students additional performance opportunities across the community and even nationwide. The organization also operates the School of Musical Theatre, which provides classes in acting, singing, and dance. According to local theatre instructor and director for Class Act, Tina Kraft, the skills taught at the school are invaluable, fostering confidence, self-awareness, and cooperation among students. Class Act Theater's success is made possible through the generous financial support of its patrons, who cover approximately thirty percent of the costs for each production, as well as the tireless volunteer efforts of parents and community members. Greg Jordan, a Woodlands resident and Director of Commercial Sales for The Woodlands Development Company, emphasizes the importance of supporting Class Act Theater and the exceptional talent of its young performers. The organization's impact on The Woodlands community is profound, with Class Act Theater being a cherished institution. In the words of David Dow Bentley, echoing the sentiment of Victor Hugo, Class Act is "very greatly loved" within the beautiful community of The Woodlands, a testament to its enduring legacy and the happiness it brings to those it touches through the power of theatre.
