Knoxville Chamber Music Society

The Knoxville Chamber Music Society is a distinguished organization based in Knoxville, dedicated to fostering the appreciation and performance of chamber music. Founded with the mission to unite Knoxville's exceptional musicians with an enthusiastic audience, the society orchestrates inspirational chamber music experiences, showcasing a diverse range of musical talents and compositions. The society's concert series features performances by both established and emerging artists, with a schedule that includes dates such as September 10, 2022, October 22, 2022, February 25, 2023, and April 22, 2023. Among the featured artists is I-Pei Lin, a core violinist with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra since 2017, who has recently completed her doctorate at Michigan State University. Her research focuses on Florence Price’s first violin concerto, and she has a keen interest in presenting works by minority composers to diverse audiences. Joining her is Adam Ayers, a cellist who became part of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra in 2021 and has a history of performing with prestigious ensembles such as the Madison Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Chun-Hui Chang, a Taiwanese pianist with a global background, brings her expertise as a collaborative pianist to the society. Chang has studied in Taiwan, Belgium, and the USA, and currently serves as a Staff Pianist at the University of Tennessee School of Music. Her experience includes working as a répétiteur in opera and participating in masterclasses with both vocalists and instrumentalists. The society also showcases the talents of Elizabeth Farr, a multifaceted musician who is a music director, violinist, and freelance harpist. Farr, who holds degrees from the University of Tennessee and the Peabody Conservatory of Music, co-founded Farr Horizons in 1986 alongside Rachel Schlafer-Parton, and they were later joined by cellist Stacy Nickell in 2008. Alexander Lapins, an associate professor of tuba/euphonium at the University of Tennessee School of Music, is another prominent artist associated with the society. He performs with the faculty brass quintet and is a founding member of Quintasonic Brass. Lapins has a remarkable performance history, having been the only tubist to win fellowships at both the Tanglewood Music Center and the Henry Mancini Institute. Lastly, the society features Taiwanese pianist Bernadette Lo, a highly regarded collaborative pianist with a vast repertoire in both vocal and instrumental music. Lo has performed with eminent musicians and has been engaged by various festivals and opera theatres. Her performances and recordings often highlight works by female composers, contributing to the diversity and inclusivity of the society's musical offerings.
