About Chamber Music Pittsburgh (CMP) Chamber Music Pittsburgh, also known as CMP, is a renowned cultural institution that has been a part of Pittsburgh's vibrant arts scene since its inception in 1961. Founded by a group of dedicated civic leaders, CMP's mission has been to present world-class chamber music performances by both esteemed ensembles and soloists, as well as promising emerging artists. The organization is committed to fostering a deep appreciation for chamber music within the Pittsburgh community through not only its concerts but also its diverse educational programs and experiences. Over the past six decades, CMP has consistently delivered on its vision, bringing an impressive array of the most talented and renowned chamber musicians to Pittsburgh audiences. The organization is celebrated for its MainStage subscription series, which showcases acclaimed chamber ensembles, and for its eclectic Just Summer series. Additionally, CMP has introduced the Pittsburgh Performs series, which features local artists in unconventional venues, expanding the reach and experience of chamber music beyond the traditional concert hall setting. CMP's programming is guided by two fundamental principles: quality and variety. Each season is thoughtfully curated to include a mix of celebrated chamber ensembles and brilliant up-and-coming groups. The repertoire is a balanced selection of traditional musical masterpieces and contemporary, intercultural, and crossover compositions, reflecting CMP's dedication to both heritage and innovation in chamber music. Recognized throughout the classical music world, Chamber Music Pittsburgh is one of the most respected chamber music organizations in North America and remains an integral part of Pittsburgh's cultural life. In addition to its concert series, CMP has a strong educational mission. The organization offers masterclasses, workshops, lectures, scholarships, and practice challenges, among other educational initiatives. CMP has also established a partnership with the Hope Academy of Music and the Arts, providing a free, need-based musical instrument lending library to students and families in need, as well as free tickets to CMP concerts. The Montgomery Fellowship Program, named in honor of CMP's founder, Mrs. Ruth Montgomery, is another significant educational effort. It awards a youth chamber ensemble with coaching, mentorship, performance opportunities, and complimentary subscriptions to the CMP MainStage Live concert series. Chamber Music Pittsburgh's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is evident in its programming and practices. The organization strives to create an environment where every individual feels welcome, acknowledged, and valued, believing that music is a powerful tool for self-expression and connection across diverse communities.
