The Vienna Boys' Choir, known in German as the Wiener Sängerknaben, is one of the most famous and oldest boys' choirs in the world, based in Vienna, Austria. Established in 1498 by Maximilian I, the choir has a rich history spanning over five centuries. Traditionally, the choir is composed of boys between the ages of 10 and 14. They are divided into four touring choirs—named Bruckner, Haydn, Mozart, and Schubert—each with its distinguished repertoire and schedule of worldwide performances. The Choir is known for its distinctive sound, which combines purity of tone and clarity. They perform a varied repertoire that includes medieval to contemporary music and are frequently invited to perform at major international festivals and special events. The Vienna Boys' Choir operates under the auspices of the Vienna Boys' Choir Foundation, and their current headquarters is at Palais Augarten in Vienna. They continue to be a symbol of Vienna's rich cultural and musical heritage.
