A.D. Players at the George Theater is a prominent Christian theater company based in Houston, Texas, with a mission to transform hearts and minds for the Kingdom of God through the medium of theater. The company was founded in 1967 by Jeannette Clift George, a Houston native with an extensive background in professional theater. Her career included acting Off-Broadway, at the Playhouse in the Park in Philadelphia, the Arena Stage in Washington, DC, and touring with the New York Shakespeare Company. She was also a member of Houston’s Alley Theatre acting company and performed in numerous productions. Jeannette Clift George made her film debut as Corrie Ten Boom in World Wide Pictures’ "The Hiding Place," for which she received critical acclaim, including a Golden Globe nomination and recognition by the British Academy of Arts and Sciences. Her vision for A.D. Players was to combine her professional experience with her passion for theater that upholds human value, nurtures creativity, and promotes artistic excellence and education. Under her leadership, A.D. Players established a Touring Company that has performed both nationally and internationally and continues to perform regionally. In 1977, the company purchased the building that became Grace Theater, which served as the mainstage for nearly 40 years. The Theater Arts Academy was also established to offer drama classes to individuals of all ages. The company has expanded its programmatic efforts, starting Houston’s first year-round children's theater in 1992 and debuting Off-Broadway with Jeannette Clift George’s "John, His Story" at Lamb’s Theater in New York City in 1997. A.D. Players has been a staple in Houston's theater scene for over 50 years, fostering generations of actors through its creative community. In 2003, A.D. Players acquired prime real estate in Houston’s Galleria area and in February 2017 opened the Jeannette and L.M. George Theater with its inaugural production of "To Kill A Mockingbird." The new venue continues to offer A.D. Players’ hospitable performance style to both longstanding and new audiences. The organization's vision is to be the leading Christian theater company in the world, delivering challenging, redemptive, and joyful stories. Its values are deeply rooted in the Gospel, with a commitment to integrity, encouragement, quality, compassion, kindness, respect, artistic ambition, redemption, and courage. The current Executive Artistic Director of A.D. Players at the George Theater is Jayme McGhan, an accomplished playwright, director, designer, technician, actor, and educator. McGhan has authored 23 full-length plays that have been produced and developed across the country. He has served in various leadership roles in theater education and is deeply committed to the company’s mission and vision. A.D. Players at the George Theater continues to enrich the cultural landscape through its productions and educational programs, remaining steadfast in its dedication to artistic quality and faith-based storytelling.
