The Tallis Scholars

The Tallis Scholars are a world-renowned vocal ensemble specializing in Renaissance sacred music. Founded in 1973 by Peter Phillips, the group has been pivotal in revitalizing interest in early choral music, which spans works from the European Renaissance. Over the decades, The Tallis Scholars have achieved critical acclaim for their precise and ethereal interpretations of composers such as Thomas Tallis, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Tomas Luis de Victoria, and Josquin des Prez. Their recordings, many released on the Gimell Records label, have received numerous accolades, including several Gramophone Awards. Under Phillips's direction, The Tallis Scholars have performed in iconic venues worldwide, such as the Royal Albert Hall and the Basilica of San Marco, Venice. Their commitment to historically informed performances has established them as one of the leading exponents of Renaissance choral music in contemporary classical music circles.
