The Magic Flute introduces a cast of unforgettable characters, including the villainous Queen of the Night and the quirky, yet relatable Papageno, in a story that blends fairy tale and philosophy. One of Mozart’s most brilliant orchestral scores, this magnificent, extravagant opera-in-concert production combines the talents of the SLSO, a cast of acclaimed vocalists, and the “impeccable” (KDHX) St. Louis Symphony Chorus.

This sumptuous period epic tells the gripping tale of Vienna court composer Antonio Salieri and his rivalry with the brilliant young composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Salieri’s envy fuels his plot to destroy the man, all while being unable to tear himself away from the genius of Mozart’s music. Dark, sobering, and wrought with tension, yet infused with hope and light, Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem reflects on war, across all generations and continents. With the words of poet and soldier Wilfred Owen set alongside traditional Latin texts, Britten’s call for reconciliation has been called a contemporary masterpiece. The SLSO is joined by three world-renowned vocalists, the St. Louis Symphony Chorus, and The St. Louis Children’s Choirs to create one of the most expansive ranges of emotion and sound imaginable.

Our celebration of Mozart begins at the very end. The circumstances surrounding Mozart’s unfinished Requiem are shrouded in mystery, but the music’s sorrow and beauty speak across the centuries. The Adagio and Fugue, another late work, is a dark and almost mystical vision. Acclaimed bass-baritone Dashon Burton returns to the SLSO in Detlev Glanert's arrangement of Brahms’ final song cycle, the Four Serious Songs.

Sicily, 1900. A beautiful place with a passionate underbelly. The perfect setting for Pietro Mascagni’s legendary Cavalleria rusticana, a compelling story of love and betrayal. Turiddu and Lola have happily rekindled their old love, but Lola’s husband finds out, and Santuzza feels betrayed, all with dire consequences. Conductor James Gaffigan brings an international reputation as an opera conductor, and he tells this tale with white-hot intensity.
