Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts

The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, located in Kansas City, Missouri, is a prominent cultural venue known for its diverse and extraordinary performing arts experiences. The vision for the center was initiated by Muriel McBrien Kauffman, a civic leader and philanthropist, in 1994. After her passing, her daughter, Julia Irene Kauffman, took on the task of realizing this vision, leading to the formal planning phase in 2000. The architectural design was entrusted to Moshe Safdie, with groundbreaking occurring in 2006. Officially named the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in 2006, the center opened its doors in September 2011 with a grand celebration attended by over 55,000 people. Since its opening, the center has hosted millions of visitors and numerous performances, becoming a cultural cornerstone in Kansas City. The center is home to resident organizations such as the Kansas City Ballet, Lyric Opera, and Kansas City Symphony, and it aims to enrich the community through high-quality programs and educational initiatives. The Kauffman Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, committed to making the arts accessible to all.
