Limehouse, United Kingdom

Docklands Sinfonia, founded in 2009 by conductor Spencer Down, is a versatile orchestra based in East London. It collaborates with composers, producers, and promoters across various music genres, including film, rock, pop, and classical. The orchestra has performed for Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace and with Grammy-winner Imogen Heap at the Royal Albert Hall. Notable performances include the world premiere of Roy Budd's score for the 1925 silent film "Phantom of the Opera" at the Barbican and London Coliseum. Docklands Sinfonia has appeared on BBC Radio 3 and BBC1 and conducted the first concerts in Tower Bridge's Bascule Chamber. The orchestra has worked with renowned artists such as Alison Balsom, Jennifer Pike, and the English National Ballet. It is closely associated with songwriter Mike Batt and has recorded albums for artists like Olly Murs and Katie Melua. The orchestra is committed to community engagement, exemplified by its educational project "The Caretaker's Guide to the Orchestra," which has reached over 5,000 school children in East London.
