The Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale (PBO) is a renowned ensemble dedicated to historically-informed performances of music from the Baroque, Classical, and Early Romantic periods. Based in San Francisco, California, the PBO was founded with the mission to present audiences around the world with authentic renditions of period music, using instruments and vocal techniques that align with the styles and sounds of the times in which the music was originally composed. Under the artistic leadership of Music Director Richard Egarr and Music Director Laureate Nicholas McGegan, the PBO has established itself as one of the leading period performance ensembles. The orchestra and chorale are celebrated for their vibrant and expressive performances that bring the music of the past to life with contemporary relevance and impact. The PBO's pursuit of excellence is rooted in three core convictions: the universality of great music, the unique experience provided by period-instrument performance, and the importance of preserving the opportunity for modern audiences to experience historical instruments and works. These convictions drive the organization's commitment to excellence in performance, recording, and education. In addition to a dynamic concert season that includes a mix of well-known masterpieces and lesser-known gems, the PBO is actively involved in recording projects, with a discography that showcases the ensemble's versatility and expertise. The PBO also places a strong emphasis on education and community engagement, offering a variety of programs such as virtual music lessons, masterclasses, and lecture series designed to foster an appreciation for period music among audiences of all ages. The PBO's administrative offices are located at 414 Mason St., Ste 400, San Francisco, CA 94102. The organization offers a range of ways for patrons and supporters to get involved, including volunteer opportunities, annual giving, legacy giving, and an endowment fund, ensuring the continued success and growth of the ensemble.
