Swan Lake is a timeless story of love, betrayal, and sacrifice. On a hunting trip, Prince Siegfried discovers Odette, a woman who was captured and transformed into a white swan. Struck by her beauty, he vows eternal love, unaware that her captor Von Rothbart has been watching them. Von Rothbart has cast a spell on Odette that can only be broken by her one true love. To prevent the couple from breaking the spell, he tricks Prince Siegfried into declaring his love for his daughter Odile. Believing that Odette has come to him in masquerade, the prince happily selects Odile as his bride and unwillingly breaks his vow to Odette, dooming her to remain a swan forever. In the final act, a heartbroken Odette and regretful Siegfried reunite and destroy the evil sorcerer, but the spell cannot be undone.

The Nutcracker

Join Clara Silberhaus one magical Christmas Eve as she travels to the Kingdom of the Sweets. Along the way, experience the excitement of the dancing bear, the growing Christmas tree, the battle with the mice, and the Nutcracker who comes to life! The Nutcracker is based on the libretto by Alexandre Dumas père titled The Tale of the Nutcracker, which is adapted from E. T. A. Hoffmann’s story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.

A highlight of the entire season, Crystal Pite’s The Seasons’ Canon is a powerhouse ballet featuring 54 dancers on stage. It was originally created for the Paris Opera Ballet and will be her first work in Boston. 27’52” is made for six dancers, who form three duets. When the ballet was created, four dancers from the original cast were inspired by various poems in the creation process. Quotes from these poems are also included in the work. The ballet was developed through a unique collaboration between choreographer and composer, as German composer Dirk Haubrich created the music specifically for this piece.

Spring Experience 2025

Jean-Christophe Maillot’s version shares the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet through the eyes of the remorseful Friar Lawrence. This original perspective on the well-known story enables us to deeply connect with the themes of pride, fear, excitement, and subsequent impulsiveness. The minimalistic sets amplify the dancers’ emotions, allowing audience members to see themselves in the turmoil and passion of the characters on stage.

Roméo et Juliette

Experience a captivating reimagining of a timeless love story with the Boston Ballet's production of "Roméo et Juliette." This fresh take on the Shakespearean classic is set to enchant audiences from May 29 to June 8, 2025, offering a unique perspective through the eyes of the remorseful Friar Lawrence. Choreographed by Jean-Christophe Maillot, this version highlights the tragic tale with minimalistic sets that amplify the dancers' emotions, allowing the audience to deeply connect with the characters' experiences of pride, fear, excitement, and impulsiveness.

The contemporary choreography, praised for incorporating elements of cinematography, flows freely, enabling the dancers to fully embody the emotions of the characters. The performance is further elevated by the Boston Ballet Orchestra under Mischa Santora, featuring the full Sergei Prokofiev score, which has been refined to enhance balletic movement.

This production, which first premiered on December 23, 1996, with Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, has been brought to life thanks to a generous gift from the Stephens Naphtal Foundation. Performances will be held at the Citizens Opera House, with a schedule that includes evening shows at 7:30 pm and matinees at 1:30 pm, ensuring multiple opportunities to witness this breathtaking ballet.
