Dexter Community Orchestra

Dexter, MI, United States

==Dexter Community Orchestra (DCO)== The '''Dexter Community Orchestra''' ('''DCO''') is a non-profit musical group based in Dexter, Michigan, that has been dedicated to cultural enrichment through symphonic music since its inception. The orchestra was founded with the intention of creating a community ensemble that would offer musicians of varying skill levels the opportunity to perform symphonic works, foster music education among both youths and adults, and contribute to the enhancement of performing arts within the Dexter community and its surrounding areas. ===Founding=== The idea for the DCO was conceived in the summer of 2005 by '''Don Parrish''', who, alongside a group of supporters, sought to establish a community orchestra in Dexter. An advertisement was placed in the local newspaper inviting musicians to the first rehearsal, which was held in September 2005. The turnout exceeded expectations, with over 50 individuals attending, many of whom were accomplished band and orchestral musicians. Following this successful gathering, the Dexter Community Orchestra was officially chartered. ===Inaugural Concert=== The DCO marked its official debut on January 22, 2006, with a performance of Antonin Dvorak's "New World Symphony." This inaugural concert symbolized the birth of the orchestra and promised the town of Dexter a new cultural institution that would provide musical enjoyment for years to come. ===Timeline of Major Events=== * '''2005''': Dexter Community Orchestra is founded by Donald Parrish. * '''2006''': The first concert is held on January 22, marking the official launch of the DCO. * '''2007''': The orchestra begins hosting gazebo concerts in Monument Park. * '''2011''': Anthony Elliot joins as the new Music Director and Conductor. * '''2012''': Introduction of chamber concerts and collaboration concerts with Dexter High School orchestras.
