Pepperdine Guitar Department presents current students of Christopher Parkening performing a variety of works in both solo and ensemble settings. All concerts are free and open to the general public. Under the guidance of Distinguished Professor of Music Christopher Parkening, the students put together an exciting program full of variety and contrast.

Guitar Chamber Concert

This Masterworks concert celebrates the Fine Arts Music Department students, who have weathered unprecedented challenges this school year and throughout the pandemic—they have persevered and worked tirelessly to hone their skills and share their talents. Come see the choirs and orchestra perform alongside 30 Pepperdine alumni in a dramatic musical celebration of their hard work and resilience.  The evening will also include recognition of professor of voice Dr. Melanie Emelio, and her 20 years of teaching, service, scholarship, and discipleship at Pepperdine University. The performance will celebrate her retirement and send her and her husband Neal forth with blessings into the next chapter of their lives.  Much of the music for this concert was chosen by or for Dr. Emelio. Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer 1915 and Francis Poulenc’s Gloria are considered favorites among sopranos, and will be presented along with a host of other stunning pieces.

Pepperdine Choir and Orchestra Masterworks Concert

Violinist Benjamin Baker won first prize at the 2016 Young Concert Artists International Auditions and third prize at the Michael Hill Competition in New Zealand in 2017. He demonstrates "virtuosity, refinement, and youthful exuberance" (New York Times) in his music and has performed as a soloist with London's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the National Children's Orchestra in Manchester, and more.

 <p>The Pepperdine University Wind Ensemble is comprised of the most talented wind, brass
 and percussion students on the campus. Its repertoire ranges from traditional band
 literature, one-on-a part chamber works, world premieres, to contemporary works for
 wind band.
