==Chamber Music Society of Utica== The '''Chamber Music Society of Utica''' (CMSU) is a distinguished American organization dedicated to the presentation of chamber music. Established over 80 years ago, CMSU is recognized as one of the nation's oldest organizations for chamber music presentation. It has garnered a reputation for selecting and producing an annual series of concerts featuring national and international ensembles of notable acclaim. Furthermore, CMSU has a history of showcasing promising upcoming groups, many of which have gone on to achieve significant success in their musical careers. CMSU's operations are sustained by the passion and support of its patrons, who have fostered a sense of community by consistently attending concerts, introducing new audiences to the series, and providing financial support through generous contributions. The organization emphasizes the unique experience of chamber music, which is characterized by a limited number of musicians engaging in close interaction within the intimate setting of a small performance hall. This arrangement fosters a highly valued connection between the performers and the audience, an experience that is traditionally celebrated at CMSU with receptions after the opening and closing concerts of the season. However, such gatherings were postponed for the 2021-22 season due to COVID-19 concerns. Remarkably, CMSU has been able to thrive without paid staff or office space, relying solely on the dedicated volunteer efforts of its Board of Trustees to manage all aspects of the organization. The current board includes Susanna Watling as President, Jan Moore as Vice President, Bob Verkuyl as Treasurer, and Rand Carter as Recording Secretary, among other distinguished members. In 2016, to commemorate its 75th anniversary, CMSU compiled a history detailing its significant contributions to the cultural landscape of Utica and the broader chamber music community. The organization is based in Utica, New York, and can be contacted through its P.O. box, via phone to the Ticket Chair Natalie Combar or the President Susanna Watling, or through email. CMSU continues to invite music enthusiasts to join its mailing list to receive updates on upcoming concerts and events, ensuring that the legacy of chamber music remains vibrant and accessible to future generations.
