Southern California Children's Chorus

Irvine, CA, United States

The Southern California Children's Chorus (SCCC) is a renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of children through exceptional choral music education and performance. Established in 1996, SCCC operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit entity and has since developed a reputation for its high-quality programs and international recognition. SCCC's primary mission is to provide a comprehensive music education that not only hones musical skills but also fosters teamwork, discipline, self-confidence, and personal growth among its participants. The organization caters to a diverse group of nearly 300 young individuals, ranging in age from 5 to 20 years old. The chorus has been recognized with three Emmy awards, a testament to the excellence of its music education program. SCCC has performed in prestigious venues such as Orange County's Segerstrom Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and Westminster Abbey. It has also had the honor of performing at the White House. SCCC's contributions to the arts extend beyond live performances. The chorus has provided talent for various productions in film, television, and commercials, including work for Touchstone and MGM. Collaborations with orchestral, adult choral, and opera productions, as well as rock music recordings, have featured SCCC singers. Notably, the chorus has been part of Disney events and has delivered Emmy-winning performances, including a collaboration with Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith for ESPN's E:60 special "Boston Strong" and a live rendition of "What a Wonderful World" with Esperanza Spalding at the 84th annual Academy Awards. The educational structure of SCCC is composed of a sequential choral program that includes six choirs, each led by a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty members. The organization operates on a tuition basis but remains committed to inclusivity, offering scholarships and financial assistance to ensure that children from all economic backgrounds have the opportunity to participate. To support its mission and maintain affordability, SCCC relies on a combination of tuition fees, community contributions, and grants from philanthropic entities. These funds are essential for covering the costs not met by tuition alone and are raised through various fundraising activities. The Southern California Children's Chorus is based at the University United Methodist Church, with detailed directions provided for those traveling via I-405 or CA-73 to attend rehearsals and events. The organization continues to uphold its legacy of fostering musical talent and enriching the lives of children through the power of choral music.
