Puerto Rican Traveling Theater

New York City, NY, United States

Pregones/Puerto Rican Traveling Theater (Pregones/PRTT) is a prominent multigenerational performing ensemble and arts presenter based in New York City, with facilities in The Bronx and Manhattan. The organization was formed through the merger of two influential theater companies: Pregones Theater, founded in 1979 by Rosalba Rolón and a group of artists to create new works in the style of Caribbean and Latin American performing ensembles, and the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater (PRTT), established in 1967 by stage and film icon Miriam Colón. PRTT was one of the first bilingual theater companies in the U.S., playing a crucial role in nurturing Latino artists and fostering cultural connections across the Spanish-speaking world. The merger in 2014 strengthened their mission to champion Puerto Rican and Latinx cultural legacies through original plays and musicals, partnerships with other artists, and community engagement. Pregones/PRTT continues to empower underrepresented artists and audiences, contributing significantly to the American theater landscape.
