Golden Chain Theatre

Oakhurst, United States

==Golden Chain Theatre== The '''Golden Chain Theatre''' (GCT) is a non-profit performing arts venue located at 42130 Hwy 41 in Oakhurst, California, with a mailing address of PO Box 604, Oakhurst, CA 93644. Established in 1967, the theatre has become a cultural landmark in the region, providing entertainment and arts education to the local community and visitors. It operates under the status of a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, with a mission to passionately engage audiences of all ages through a diverse range of live performances, while also contributing to the community's economy, culture, and spirit. ===History=== The inception of the Golden Chain Theatre was the result of a collective effort by community members who recognized the need for a local attraction that would encourage tourists traveling to Yosemite National Park to stop and spend time in Oakhurst. The initiative received support from the Chamber of Commerce, and the theatre initially hosted performances at the Oakhurst Community Center, focusing on 19th-century historical theatre and melodrama. Rapid growth in popularity led to the need for a dedicated space. In 1972, the founding board members took a significant risk by using their homes as collateral to purchase and convert the Snowline Bowling Alley into a theatre. This transformation included the creation of an auditorium from the bowling lanes, the establishment of a saloon, and the addition of gift shops. By 1999, the theatre celebrated a milestone when the Board of Directors announced that the mortgage on the property had been fully paid off, and the Golden Chain Theatre owned its facility outright. As of 2023, the theatre is in its 56th season and continues to expand and enhance its offerings, staying true to its roots with summer melodramas and traveling shows, while also presenting a broad array of plays and musicals. ===Facilities and Accessibility=== The Golden Chain Theatre features public parking on the north side of the building, with the south side reserved for cast and handicapped parking. The theatre is handicap accessible, ensuring that all patrons can enjoy the performances. Doors open at 6pm for evening shows, which start at 7pm, and at 1pm for Sunday matinees, which begin at 2pm, although special events may have alternate schedules. Additionally, the GCT Saloon offers a full-service bar with a selection of informal food and snack options, available before the show and during intermission. The saloon also features drink specials and complimentary popcorn during melodramas. ===Contact Information=== For more information or to get in touch with the Golden Chain Theatre, interested parties can contact the office at 559-683-7112 or via email at office@goldenchaintheatre.org. ==External Links== * [http://www.goldenchaintheatre.org Official website of the Golden Chain Theatre]
