==Tulare Encore Theatre Company== The '''Tulare Encore Theatre Company''', commonly known as '''Encore Theatre Company''', is a community-based performing arts organization located at 324 South N Street in downtown Tulare, California. Founded in 1978 by a group of theatre enthusiasts, the company emerged from the desire to keep theatre alive in the community after funding for a Summer School Theatre Program was cut. During a school band trip to Canada, several parents and teachers conceived the idea of forming an independent theatre company, which was actualized upon their return, with the company's first production, "Bye Bye Birdie," staged in the summer of 1979. Encore Theatre Company has since grown from its humble beginnings, producing two to three shows annually in various locations, to a permanent establishment in 1983 when the City of Tulare leased them an abandoned house for $1 per year. Despite the initial size limitations and fire damage, the company expanded the facility through four additions to the original house, as well as a recently completed storage building. Focusing on family-oriented shows, the company has maintained a tradition of involving young people in its productions, particularly through its large kid-friendly summer productions. Encore Theatre Company has expanded its annual offerings to five main stage shows and has developed two educational programs for youth: the Stages classes and Encore Kids. The Stages classes provide theatre skills training for children from 2nd to 12th grade, culminating in a recital and a full stage production. Encore Kids, catering to children from 3rd to 8th grade, is a song and dance group that performs at the opening of main stage shows and various community events, including annual performances at Disneyland and Catalina Island. With a commitment to musical productions and comedies that often break the fourth wall, the theatre has become an intimate black box theater with a seating capacity of 100. The company prides itself on its cabaret seating style, refreshments served by wait staff, and comfortable, upgraded seating. The majority of Encore Theatre Company's shows are suitable for younger audiences, staying true to its family-friendly ethos. The Encore Theatre Company is a non-profit organization that continues to enrich the Tulare community through its dedication to the performing arts, volunteer opportunities, and educational programs. Its history of perseverance and community support has made it a staple in the local cultural landscape. ==External Links== * [http://www.encoretheatrecompany.com Official website of the Encore Theatre Company] {{DEFAULTSORT:Encore Theatre Company, Tulare}} [[Category:Theatre companies in California]] [[Category:Non-profit organizations based in California]] [[Category:Educational organizations based in the United States]] [[Category:1978 establishments in California]] [[Category:Arts organizations established in 1978]]
