Theatre Tallahassee, originally founded as Tallahassee Little Theatre (TLT) on February 10, 1949, began with the production of "Boy Meets Girl" on May 17, 1949. In 1952, it became a non-profit organization aimed at promoting literary and dramatic arts. The theatre's physical presence was solidified in 1957 with a land donation from the Winthrop family, leading to the construction of a Stage House by 1961. The theatre expanded in 1991, adding a 259-seat auditorium and improved facilities, thanks to grants and private donations. In 2012, a legacy donation enabled further renovations, including updates to the Mainstage auditorium and the creation of a black-box performance space. On August 24, 2013, the theatre was officially renamed Theatre Tallahassee, reflecting its growth and modernization. The organization continues to offer a diverse range of theatrical productions and community events.
