For four-time Grammy winner Jimmie Vaughan, country music and the blues all come down to one thing. “When I talk about country and blues, they’re the same thing,” he said. “It’s Muddy Waters and Hank Williams, Webb Pierce and Jimmy Reed. When I was a kid, I didn’t understand the difference. Everybody was always asking me, ‘Why do you want to play blues? Why don’t you play country?’ But I would listen to the country guys and they’d be doing a Jimmy Reed song. They’re playing the same lick. And Ray Charles, Little Milton, Guitar Junior, Lonnie Brooks, B. B. King - they all did country songs. Is Bob Wills country, blues or jazz? The answer is, it’s American music.”

It all began with four friends in high school. More than two decades ago, brothers Andrew and Mike Tierney and their friends, Phil Burton and Toby Atlas, formed an Australian boy band, 4Trax. Distinctive harmonies caught the attention of Sony Music Australia’s CEO and after they performed an acappella version of “People Get Ready,” they were signed to a contract on the spot. They changed the band’s name to Human Nature and the rest, as they say, is history.

Jesse Cook never planned to become a musician. “If you had asked me at age 22, I would have said that I would never, never make music for the public,” he said. “I would have told you that the public is much too fickle; they may love you one minute and forget you the next. Well, it turns out I did the thing I said I’d never do, and somehow, it’s worked out.”

Jeremy Stolle spent 15 years on Broadway in The Phantom of the Opera, and he loves its music dearly. Still, for his concert, he has chosen the title, “No More Talk of Darkness,” which is the start of the ‘Phantom’ song, “All I Ask of You.” He has selected the title for a reason. “I’ve been ‘Phantom’ for over a decade,” he said some years ago. “It’s a very specific type of music and we’ll give them all the favorites, but this is a fun and uplifting show. We have a good time and we try to throw a Broadway singing party that’s a lot of fun. There are great vocals and my band is out-of-sight. We have a piano, bass and drum and three singers.”

Sometimes a group of musicians sit down together to jam, and magic happens.

For Sister Sadie, the groundbreaking, all-female bluegrass band, that happened during a one-off jam session at Nashville’s legendary Station Inn. Their chemistry transformed a casual collaboration into a full-time powerhouse. Today, Sister Sadie is known for electrifying performances, stellar musicianship, and the seamless blend of tradition and innovation they bring to bluegrass music. Sister Sadie has released three critically acclaimed albums: their debut album, 2016’s Sister Sadie, introduced them to the world; their sophomore release, Sister Sadie II, in 2018, solidified their reputation as one of the leading acts in bluegrass. That album earned a Grammy nomination for “Best Bluegrass Album.” The group’s third album, No Fear, in 2024, was a triumphant return to recording. From “Diane,” a spirited cover debuted at the IBMA awards in 2023 to the chart-topping “Willow,” the album showcases the artistry and fearless spirit that makes the band a leading voice in bluegrass. It also earned them their second Grammy nod.

There is a wealth of history behind The Dirty Dozen Brass Band. In 1977, The Dirty Dozen Social Aid and Pleasure Club in New Orleans began showcasing a traditional Crescent City brass band. It was a joining of two proud, but antiquated, traditions. Social aid and pleasure clubs dated back more than a century, to a time when black southerners could rarely afford life insurance. The clubs would provide proper funeral arrangements, and brass bands, early predecessors of the jazz we know, would often follow the funeral processions, playing somber dirges until the family of the deceased was out of earshot. Then they let loose, playing jubilant dance tunes as casual onlookers danced in the streets.

Along the way, they share stories of working with people like Bob Fosse, Joe Layton, and Jim Rado.

When your teacher and mentor is iconic blues guitarist Albert Collins, you listen. That’s what guitar virtuoso and soul-deep singer Coco Montoya did when Collins told him to “Just play what you feel, be real about it and enjoy yourself.”

It’s a long way from the mean streets of the Brazilian favelas to the tree-lined campus of an Iowa university, yet that’s the extraordinary journey musical twins Walter and Wagner Caldas made. The thirty-something-year-olds got their first instruments, violins, from their father, who had a small woodshop and made instruments for a local orchestra designed to keep kids off the streets. The boys took lessons, joined the orchestra at 12, and began traveling outside the favela. They also memorized pop songs by Justin Timberlake and Michael Jackson.

The Squirrel Nut Zippers began their musical journey in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in the mid 1990’s, as a musician’s escape from the cookie cutter world of modern rock radio at the time. Jimbo Mathus along with wife Katherine Whalen and drummer Chris Phillips formed the band as a casual musical foray playing for friends and family around town. It wasn’t long before the band (which had grown in size) developed a reputation for pioneering a quirky mix of jazz chords, folk music, and punk rock leanings and attracted a national audience.

Since its founding in 1986, the Peking Acrobats have redefined our perceptions of the ancient art. They perform daring maneuvers atop a precarious pagoda of chairs and display their technical prowess at trick-cycling, precision tumbling, juggling, somersaulting, and gymnastics. They push the limits of human ability, defying gravity with amazing displays of contortion, flexibility, and control. The traditional Chinese music combined with high-tech special effects and awe-inspiring acrobatics to create an entertainment event with the festive pageantry of Chinese Carnival.

Chicago is a rock-infused, horn-driven musical powerhouse that has inspired generations of professional musicians over the last 40 years. Some of the very best of those musicians found their way to central Florida and came together to form Orlando Transit Authority. OTA is a high-energy Chicago tribute show made up of A-list players who are, first and foremost, Chicago FANS. Founder Stan Allen and Musical Director Carl Dirkes hand-picked each member of the band based on one simple criteria: The degree to which he naturally sounds like the corresponding original member of Chicago. Any time you assemble players of this caliber, a great-sounding band is a given but that wasn’t enough. OTA went one step further by seeking to emulate every stylistic nuance of the Chicago sound, both vocally and instrumentally. The vocal harmonies are right. The solos are right. The guitar sounds are right. EVERYTHING is right. Close your eyes and you just might forget who it is you’re listening to.

The band, which began in Greenwich Village in 1965, was an integral part of the folk-rock movement and influenced many groups of the era. Beginning with their debut single, “Do You Believe in Magic,” The Lovin’ Spoonful had seven consecutive singles reach the Top Ten in the 18 months that followed. They included “Daydream,” “Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind?” “You Didn’t Have to Be So Nice,” “Younger Girl,” “Darling Be Home Soon,” “Nashville Cats,” the wistful “Rain on the Roof,” and the chart-topping song that defined a season, “Summer in the City.”

The Lovin’ Spoonful Show

You heard it all the time. Georgia Satellites' debut album featured the song “Keep Your Hands to Yourself,” and the tune peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 as it drew in both rock and country fans. The band recorded a cover of the 1964 hit, “Hippy Hippy Shake" for the Tom Cruise movie Cocktail and hit the charts again. Songs like “Battleship Chains,” “Open All Night,” and “All but the Cryin’” made the band from Atlanta what Rolling Stone called “The preeminent bar band.”
