Celebration of America is honoring the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. Through three compelling works and the vitality of live music, we reflect on the nations cultural spirit, artistic legacy, and complex identity. George Balanchines Stars and Stripes brings the program to a bold and exuberant peak. Set to the enthusiastic marches of John Philip Sousa, orchestrated by Hershy Kay, this iconic ballet is a dazzling display of precision, patriotism, and pageantry an homage to American optimism and grandeur. The program will also include Zalman Raffaels In the Gray, set to music by Philip Glass. We will also be presenting Amy Hall Garners American in Paris an effervescent journey through a day in Paris as seen through American eyes. Set to Gershwins lively score, it captures the radiance, romance, and spontaneity of discovering a city anew, blending classical technique with jazz-inflected rhythms and Broadway charm. Carolina Ballet Presents Celebration Of America

Carolina Ballet will close the season with the most enchanting version of Cinderella. In 2006, Robert Weiss first choreographed Carolina Ballet’s version for Triangle audiences. For this production, Karl Moraski’s original piano score has been orchestrated, and it will be performed live for the first time by a full orchestra. With new sets and costumes, Carolina Ballet's Cinderella will continue to enchant and excite patrons and their families throughout North Carolina.

In Spring 2024, Zalman Raffael will revisit his Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 2. “Rachmaninoff’s music is more than just evocative, it invokes a sense of spirituality, triumph and courage, but also alludes to elegance.”

For the first time, composer Paul Moravec will orchestrate his classical music for this production of Robert Weiss’ Time Gallery. These ballets will illustrate classical ballet’s vocabulary as seen through the work of two contemporary choreographers.

Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 2 

Carolina Ballet is very excited to embark upon a new world-premiere ballet set to the story of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid. Different from their previously presented Mermaid program, this version will feature brand-new sets and costumes. The production will surely dazzle audiences, and it will appeal to both the first-time attendee and the sophisticated ballet-goer as well.

A Season Finale Like No Other: The World Premiere of Beauty and the Beast To close Carolina Ballets 28th season, we are pleased to announce the world premiere of Beauty and the Beast, a new full-length ballet by Artistic Director/CEO Zalman Raffael. This original production will be accompanied by live orchestra. Inspired by the enduring French fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast casts a timeless story in a new artistic light one that speaks to the transformative power of compassion, courage, and the ability to see beyond appearances. Through imaginative choreography and a richly drawn theatrical world, audiences will be invited into a landscape of mystery, enchantment, and emotional depth. This production marks a meaningful conclusion to our 28th season a celebration of artistry, storytelling, and the continued evolution of ballet as a living, expressive form.
