The Naples Players (TNP) is a prominent community theatre based in Naples, Florida, known for its deep community impact and high-quality productions. Established on January 19, 1953, by local residents, the group initially performed in various borrowed spaces, quickly gaining a reputation for strong performances. In 1975, TNP opened its first official playhouse, and by 1985, they relocated to a renovated venue on Goodlette Road. In 1998, with support from visionary donors, TNP inaugurated the Sugden Community Theatre on 5th Avenue South, transforming both the organization and the area into a cultural hub. The theatre expanded its educational programs and community partnerships significantly, serving a wide range of audiences, including those with disabilities and health challenges. During the COVID-19 pandemic, TNP adapted by creating virtual productions and outdoor performances. In 2024, a major renovation introduced new facilities, enhancing access and capacity. In 2025, TNP launched the Baker Day School, a full-time performing arts school, further solidifying its commitment to education. Today, TNP stands as a national model for community theatres, influencing the field through its innovative programs and dedication to community transformation.
