TimeLine Theatre Company, established in April 1997, is a Chicago-based theatre company that presents productions inspired by history, connecting them with contemporary social and political issues. The company was founded by six individuals who each contributed $50, aiming to create a theatre that goes beyond mere entertainment. TimeLine Theatre has since grown into a prominent cultural institution in Chicago, known for its collaborative productions that provoke thought and dialogue. === Mission === The mission of TimeLine Theatre Company is to produce theatre that engages, entertains, and enlightens audiences through stories that reflect history's resonance with today's social and political realities. The company's work is characterized by its commitment to presenting riveting stories that link past, present, and future, and to inspire change and re-imagination of tomorrow. === Productions and Programs === Over its first 24 seasons, TimeLine has staged 82 productions, including 10 world premieres and 38 Chicago premieres. The company has also established the Living History Education Program, now in its 15th year, which brings TimeLine's mission to life for students in Chicago Public Schools. Since 2008, the company has produced using Actors’ Equity Association contracts. In addition to its mainstage productions, TimeLine offers a range of educational programs and initiatives, including TimeLine South, TimePieces Readings, and the Playwrights Collective. TimeLine South, launched in 2018, is a unique arts program providing a safe space for teens to engage in self-expression, creativity, and ensemble building on the south side of Chicago, emphasizing theatre as a vehicle for social justice. === Recognition === TimeLine Theatre has been recognized for both artistic excellence and effective business management. It received the 2016 MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions and has been honored with 58 Jeff Awards, including 11 awards for Outstanding Production. The company was also named Company of the Year by The Wall Street Journal in 2010 and has received accolades from the American Theatre Wing and Chicago magazine. === Leadership and Community Involvement === The company is led by Artistic Director PJ Powers and Executive Director Mica Cole, with John Sterling serving as Board President. TimeLine is an active member of several theatre and cultural organizations, including the League of Chicago Theatres, Theatre Communications Group, and the Chicago Green Theatre Alliance. === Living History Education Program === The Living History Education Program, founded in 2006, is a cornerstone of TimeLine's educational outreach. It integrates the arts into the curriculum of Chicago Public Schools, teaching theatre skills while fostering creative thinking and historical understanding.
