A new concert experience at the State Historical Society of Missouri (SHSMO), attendees are offered the unique opportunity to immerse themselves within the MSO and experience works such as Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Berstein’s Candide Overture, Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain, and other well-known favorites from a bold new perspective in the grand hall of SHSMO’s Center for Missouri Studies.

Featuring recently commissioned New York Philharmonic work Clara by composer Gabriela Ortiz, this concert continues our exploration of the Schumanns with guest pianist Emi Kagawa performing Clara Schumann’s Piano Concert in A before closing with Symphony No. 3, a work composed by Schumann enthusiast Saint-Seans.

The grand opening concert of our Firefly Music Festival features the world premiere of Fanfare CoMo, a commissioned work by LA-based film music composer Ching-Shan Chang. Inspired by Columbia’s own Blind Boone and film music legend John Williams, this performance also includes a special declaration from Columbia Mayor Barbara Buffaloe.
Also featured in this exciting show are guest artists The Matsuo Duo, here to help kick off our summer exploration of Brahms and Schumann with performances of Brahms’ Symphony No. 3 and his Double Concerto. The husband and wife team of Sefani and Hiro Matsuo join us from Cincinnati, Ohio, where Stefani is the Concertmaster of the Cincinnati Symphony and Hiro is a tenured cellist of the CSO

Firefly Music Festival : Fanfare CoMo

This concert opens with a singing of the Star Spangled Banner led by a community vocalist and celebrates all things America by featuring works such as Fanfare for Democracy, John Williams’ Superman’s Theme, and Sousa’s beloved Stars and Stripes Forever, with featured guest performers Jazz Rucker, Symonne Sparks, and Sound Bites raffle winner on bass drum.
