INTAR Theatre, also known as International Arts Relations, is a prominent organization dedicated to nurturing the professional development of Latin theater artists and producing bold, innovative, artistically significant plays that reflect diverse perspectives. Since its establishment in 1966, INTAR has been at the forefront of promoting Latin voices in theater, making it a pivotal institution in America's cultural landscape. INTAR's mission is to produce and launch Latin voices in theater, ensuring that the diversity inherent in America's cultural heritage is accessible to all. The organization has a rich history of producing workshops, world premieres of plays, stage works, and adaptations created by Latin playwrights and artists. It has been instrumental in commissioning, developing, and producing live theater works generated by Latin playwrights, composers, directors, choreographers, and visual artists. Moreover, INTAR plays a crucial role in assisting early career U.S. Latin artists and producers in obtaining their first professional theater credits, union memberships, and reviews in English language media. The influence of INTAR is widespread, with The New York Times acknowledging that there's scarcely a Latino artist in America who hasn't been supported, trained, or produced by the organization. The Board of Directors, chaired by Lisa M. Harris, includes notable figures such as actor/producer Amy Madigan and INTAR Artistic Director Lou Moreno. The staff is led by Executive Director Paul Slee Rodriguez, with a team that includes Finance Manager Jeff Berzon and Associate Artistic Director Nidia Medina, among others. INTAR's commitment to Latin theater is further exemplified by its support for commissioned artists and its gratitude towards institutional and individual supporters. The 2023 commissioned artists include Jose Sebastian Alberdi, Julissa Contreras, Melissa Crespo, C. Julian Jiménez, C. Quintana, and Bernardo Solano. The organization is supported by various institutional donors such as the Cowie Charitable Trust, the Howard Gilman Foundation, and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council. INTAR is also a proud member of LxNY, the Latinx Arts Consortium of NY, and the Alliance of Latin Theaters NY, reflecting its collaborative spirit and commitment to fostering a vibrant Latin theater community. The organization welcomes charitable gifts and encourages supporters to join their list of donors to continue supporting Latin theater artists and works at their location on 500 West 52nd Street. For those interested in contributing to INTAR's mission, the organization provides information on planned giving options and matching gifts from corporate employers. INTAR's dedication to Latin theater arts without borders has made it an essential pillar in the theater community, providing a platform for Latin artists to share their voices and stories for over five decades.
