Olympia Symphony Orchestra

Olympia, United States

The Olympia Symphony Orchestra (OSO) is a semi-professional orchestra located in Olympia, Washington, dedicated to delivering high-quality live music with the aim to enrich, educate, and entertain an expanding audience in the South Puget Sound region. Since its inaugural concert in 1947, the OSO has established itself as the premier orchestra in the South Sound area, earning acclaim for its commitment to both community involvement and artistic excellence. Throughout its history, the OSO has been under the leadership of seven conductors, with Alexandra Arrieche being the most recent appointee in 2022. The orchestra's typical season features a variety of performances, including a series of subscription concerts at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts, a free outdoor summer concert, a special movie music concert during the holiday season, and several chamber music events held across the community and at public occasions. The OSO is comprised of 65 contracted musicians, a full-time Executive Director, and six part-time staff members who provide administrative and orchestral support. Governance is provided by an 11-person Board of Directors who are committed to the orchestra's success. Education is a fundamental aspect of the orchestra's mission, and the OSO takes pride in its educational outreach and collaborations with local youth music organizations, such as the Student Orchestras of Greater Olympia (SOGO). Additionally, the OSO maintains partnerships with other arts organizations including Ballet Northwest, Olympia Youth Chorus, Emerald City Music, Bridge Music Project, and Masterworks Choral Ensemble, further contributing to the cultural fabric of the region. Financial support for the OSO comes from a variety of community partners, including businesses and individual donors who are passionate about supporting the arts and ensuring the continuation of symphonic music through live performances. The Olympia Symphony Orchestra is an esteemed member of several associations that reflect its commitment to the arts and the community, including the League of American Orchestras, Thurston County Chamber of Commerce, Olympia Downtown Alliance, Olympia - Lacey - Tumwater Visitor & Convention Bureau, South Sound Partners for Philanthropy, Washington Nonprofits, and participates in the Washington State Combined Fund Drive with the charity code: 0315113.
