In celebration of the Frost School of Music’s centennial, Frost professor Etienne Charles writes a new work for the orchestra. Having recently had one of his compositions premiere at the opening concert of the newly renovated David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center, you will not want to miss it! The concert concludes with Gustav Mahler’s "Totenfeier," which later became part of his Second Symphony.

The Frost Symphony Orchestra performs three seminal American compositions. David Diamond and Aaron Copland, two 20th-century American musical giants, highlight this program. Diamond, known for his eleven symphonies, mentored notable composers like Adolphus Hailstork, Lowell Liebermann, and Eric Whitacre. Copland's Appalachian Spring, originally a ballet for Martha Graham, epitomizes Americana. Additionally, Czech composer Antonín Dvořák, who led the National Conservatory of Music of America in 1892, composed his renowned "New World Symphony" in 1893, featuring the iconic English horn solo in the second movement, which evolved into the spiritual "Going Home.

Seraph Brass performs a diverse body of repertoire, ranging from original transcriptions to newly commissioned works and core classics. Charles Griffes, a prominent American representative of musical Impressionism, tragically died at the age of thirty-five. His famous piano work, The White Peacock, written in 1915, was orchestrated one year before his death.

The 6th Frost Chopin Festival closes its curtains with a majestic concert featuring works by Chopin with orchestral accompaniment. The program will feature the winners of the Frost Chopin Academy Concerto Competition, which will be held during the week of the festival, as well as academy participant and winner of the 2023 International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments, pianist Eric Guo. Outstanding violinist and concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra, David Kim, will lead the orchestra members and soloists in what will surely be a memorable concert.

The 6th Chopin Festival is delighted to welcome this year the Ted Rosenthal Trio, a world-class jazz piano trio, which will bring new perspectives to beloved classical music with an exciting jazz twist.

UPDATE ARTIST CHANGE: Due to a family emergency, Frost Chopin Academy and Festival teaching and performing artist, Wojciech Switala, flew back to Poland late last night. In his stead, we have invited a few more Frost Chopin Academy participants to perform works by Chopin, including the Mazurkas op. 24 which were originally in the program. All of tonight's performers are accomplished young artists, winners of numerous international competitions, with blossoming careers, including Eric Guo, who won the most recent International Chopin Competition for Period Instruments in Warsaw!

The 6th Chopin Festival opens its curtains with a world premiere, the piano arrangement by Konrad Binienda of Karol Szymanowski’s ballet-pantomime, Harnasie. This work is steeped in the folk traditions and music of the Górale people, which Frost Chopin Academy participant Jiana Peng will bring to life for solo piano.

Argentine-American jazz vocalist and composer Roxana Amed presents "BECOMING HUMAN," her 11th album produced with the "New Jazz Works" grant by Chamber Music America. Joined by her exceptional ensemble, Amed, a three-time Latin Grammy nominee, invites audiences on a poetic and musical journey through the human experience. From the innocence of birth and the joys of childhood to the challenges of forging one's identity and the introspection of the artist's solitude, “BECOMING HUMAN” delves into the depths of our shared human existence through 10 captivating songs. These compositions, penned by Amed and masterfully arranged by Martin Bejerano, Mark Small, and Kendall Moore, reflect the profound synergy of a team that has garnered acclaim both locally and internationally.
