The Panhandle Symphony Orchestra (PSO) is a community orchestra based in the United States, recognized as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. It has a rich history that traces back to its original formation as the Fort Sherman Symphonette, which was supported by the Fort Sherman Historical Society. The Symphonette's development was significantly influenced by Robert Singletary, who played a pivotal role in its establishment and subsequent growth. Over time, the ensemble underwent a transformation, culminating in its rebranding as the Panhandle Symphony Orchestra in November 2009. The PSO boasts a diverse group of over fifty seasoned musicians, whose ages range from school children to retirees, all sharing a passion for orchestral music. The governance of the PSO is overseen by a board of directors, which as of the last update, includes Kriss Mitchell serving as President, Pam Rarick as Vice President, Yvonne Deitz holding the position of Secretary, and Eric Haakenson as Treasurer. The board is further supported by additional members, namely Wynda Dobler, John Hartung, Jan Kopet, Sally MacKenzie, Sharon Strobel, and Hilary Strom. The PSO extends an invitation to music enthusiasts to become voting members of the organization through a nominal annual donation of $15. This membership is not a prerequisite for musicians to join the orchestra but offers individuals the opportunity to participate in the annual corporate meeting and contribute to the decision-making process. The funds raised through memberships are crucial for covering various operational costs such as liability insurance, rental fees for rehearsal and performance spaces, conductor fees, and the acquisition of musical scores. For those interested in reaching out to the Panhandle Symphony Orchestra, they can be contacted via telephone at 208-664-4904, by email at psoincdagmail.com, or through traditional mail at 1421 E Spokane Ave, Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814-4572. The PSO's commitment to the arts is evident in its efforts to maintain an active presence in the community, offering concerts and cultural enrichment to the public. The organization prides itself on its history, its dedicated board, and its welcoming approach to new members and musicians, all while upholding its status as a cherished institution within the community.
