The Washington Idaho Symphony is a professional orchestra based in Pullman, Washington, that has been a cornerstone of the region's cultural life for over half a century. Established to bring live orchestral music to audiences of all ages in the rural counties of Whitman and Asotin in Washington, and Latah and Nez Perce in Idaho, the Symphony provides a significant cultural service to these communities. Composed of approximately 60 professional musicians, the Washington Idaho Symphony draws its members from the Quad Cities Community. This ensemble of dedicated individuals not only delivers high-quality performances but also embodies the community spirit, with a shared passion for fostering the arts in their locality. The Symphony operates with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, ensuring that all musicians, directors, and employees feel valued and appreciated. The organization's policies and procedures are designed to prevent discrimination on any grounds, including gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, age, neurodiversity, disability status, citizenship, marital status, or any other unique attribute. The Washington Idaho Symphony has a history of engaging with the community, particularly focusing on the positive impact of music on young people. The organization offers more affordable ticket pricing, partly to encourage attendance from senior citizens and to support the involvement of students and children in music from a formative age. The Symphony is supported by its patrons, including Conductor's Circle donors Deanna and Paul Stewart, who emphasize the emotional lift they receive from performances and the importance of the orchestra in the community. Volunteerism and community participation are vital to the Symphony's operations, with various opportunities available in concert support and event coordination. The Board of Directors, comprising community members, plays a crucial role in the governance of the organization, with members committing to a three-year term of voluntary service. For those interested in joining the musical ranks of the Washington Idaho Symphony, auditions are held in the early fall. Musicians must perform a blind audition for a panel of principal players and the music director, with details available on the Symphony's Audition Opportunities Page.
